Kiwanis Park
Bremerton is the largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula and is connected to Downtown Seattle by a ferry. It is home to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Bremerton Annex of Naval Base Kitsap.
Kiwanis Park has been getting a lot of spinning, swinging, and climbing lately, but not sliding. But that’s about to change. See our home page.
Playground
Kiwanis Park is an excellent place to spend the day in Bremerton, whether you want to play games or just relax in the open grass. This park is a hidden gem that has something for everyone. It has a great playground for kids and a good walking path for adults. It also has a soccer field in the upper part of the park.
A donation from the local Kiwanis Club helped pay for a meandering 32-foot slide built into a hillside along Fifth Street. The slide will likely open to sliders on Friday.
A former Bremerton mayor who added green spaces to the city while in office believes parks are the soul of a community. But he also acknowledges the city’s budget has been squeezed. He and a task force are now seeking residents’ opinions about what they want from their parks system. They will ask what they would save if the city had to make more cuts and what they would sacrifice if the city could not afford more improvements.
Softball Field
Located on the waterfront of Puget Sound, Kiwanis Park is an outdoor destination with a variety of activities. The park features a boardwalk, a playground, picnic areas, and stunning views of the Olympic Mountains and Seattle skyline.
The city was home to the Kitsap BlueJackets of the summer collegiate West Coast League until 2017, and the now-defunct Kitsap Pumas of the USL Premier Development League. It is also the location of the Glen Jarstad Aquatic Center, a public swimming facility that offers a range of classes and programs.
The city is divided into three state legislative districts: the 23rd, the 35th, and the Sixth. It is also part of the Port Washington school district and the Kitsap County Community College. Bremerton has a relatively low crime rate and a strong public education system. The city is served by one police department and has a number of volunteer fire departments and ambulance services. It is also the site of a regional medical center and the headquarters of several naval shipyards and other government agencies. Learn more about Bremerton here.
Basketball Courts
Basketball players will love playing in this outdoor venue, which has two courts. The courts are available to the public for a small fee, and there are also benches and shaded areas around them. The facility is open year-round. The city hosts youth sports leagues in the summer, and the park is also used for other events and programs.
Bremerton is taking a fresh approach to its parks, and the public is being asked for input on what they want to see in their future. The survey is part of a citywide effort to shape the parks system and will be used to craft a new six-year plan for parks and open space.
The Gordon Park And Athletic Complex is a large outdoor recreational area, featuring a baseball field, a softball field, basketball courts, and a playground. It is located in the city of Bremerton and is home to a number of youth sports leagues.
Spray Park
Local conservation experts recommend using free community spray parks and wading pools instead of filling home “kiddy” pools or running backyard sprinklers — these use far more water. Spray parks are typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Bremerton’s downtown is anchored by a waterfront multimodal bus/ferry terminal and hotel complex, the high-rise Norm Dicks Government Center, and a multi-use water feature. The city’s historic waterfront includes the USS Turner Joy museum ship and the 250-foot tall Hammerhead Crane at the Navy Yard.
Downtown shops and restaurants are centered around Quincy Square, a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood. Families can listen to live music at the Charleston music venue, sample craft beers at Dog Days Brewery, and enjoy fresh food at the weekly farmers market. The downtown area also features a community theater, puppet museum, and forest theater. The southeastern portion of the city is bordered by Sinclair Inlet and the Port Washington Narrows, which are spanned by two bridges. Continue reading the next article.
